Frequently Asked Questions:

What is a box league?

A box league is a way to motivate players in a club to get out and play with other players with a similar skill level.

All the players from a given club that wish to participate in the league are split up into small groups of 4 or 5 players of equal skill level that compete amongst themselves. This small group of players is called a "box" because the scores are reported in a grid-like box format. The winner in a given box generally moves up to a more challenging box for the next round of the league, while the loser moves down to an easier box. New players are inserted at an appropriate level.

What is a purpose of the boxleagues.net website?

The purpose of this website is to make running and participating in a boxleague easy!

This site keeps track of your results, and provides a way for you to view all of the boxleague activity at your club. Once the league has reached a conclusion, the site tallies the total scores in each box, determines who wins or loses for that round of the league, and helps the league manager to create a new round of the league.

Is the site free?

Yes! We hope you like the site. At some point in the future, we may run some ads to cover our costs. If you are interested in advertising on the site, contact me at jan at kansky dot net

I was told that my club has a league hosted by this site. How do I join the league?

The first step is to register for an account on this site by clicking on the "Login" link, and then the "Sign-Up" link. Select a username, password, enter your email address, and click on "Join!".

The second step is to login and go to your account settings page and select your club from the list and click on "Add Club".

Finally, set your playing status at that club to "active" to indicate your desire to be an active part of new rounds of the league that take place at your club.

What sports are supported on the site?

Any sports that involve head-to-head match play are supported. Squash, tennis, racquetball, golf match-play, almost anything! The only requirement is that players square off and there is a winner and a loser. The number of people in a box, and the scoring system are configurable.

How do I use the site to run our club's box league?

Login to the site and click on the "Host our club" link at the top of the main page. Submit the requested information.

Note that to maintain privacy, the creator of the league is responsible for approving new members to the club. The second responsibility (and the fun part of being a league administrator) is to adjust the ordering of the players for the new rounds of the league when the previous round of the league is finished.

The administrative control of the club can be easily transferred to other members of the club.

Is my personal information private?

We hate spam just as much as you do.

Your email address is only visible to members of your club. As a further security measure, all new club members must be approved by your club administrator before they are given access to the emails of their fellow club members.

Your scores are only visible to your fellow club members.

Why did you create this site?
